The Sins of Thy Beloved, man, I came across this band on YouTube a while ago and I thought they were sort of ridiculous, so I wanted to pick one of theirs for the video this week. I know this is a performance video, but I couldn't find a real video of theirs. WHO IS THIS BAND?? Well, they are from Norway, points right there. I love the fact that there is a concentration of this music in Scandinavia just like there was a concentration of Grunge in Seattle. And, according to this fansite, they have been off the scene for awhile. I guess I'm going to use this band as an example of a goth/fantasy metal band that is *too* out there for me to listen to right now (I won't rule this out completely, there is still plenty of time for me to discover their genius). I feel like I would really like some of their music if they traded the toilet bowl vocals for crazy theatrical vocals.
On to the video. First off - KEYBOARD GIRL. GENIUS. Thank god for her, right?! I think there are a few too many band members, and aren't backwards baseball caps not allowed in fantasy metal? I totally dig the Edward Scissorhands meets Frankenstein look of the two dudes that sing, but I am not really digging the vocals I gotta say. It's kind of disappointing, because I think the song is kind of good otherwise. I LOVE the violin player, because he totally looks like he belongs in a folk band, but he was totally roped into playing in this band. This band is totally his "other project." Ok, I know that this video feels way longer than 6 minute, but stay with me. Right smack in the middle of the video, the girl singer in all her regalia comes out and sings during the second half, and the song gets all crazy. It's kind of awesome. You gotta see her dance too. Also, OTHER KEYBOARD GUY appears, probably to add the orchestral hits. Did you notice the small red silk rug thing that the girl singer gets to stand on? LOVE THAT.
In conclusion, maybe I could see myself getting into this band, but I am not 100% feeling them yet. I would be very curious to hear one of their studio albums.
LOL! Some of these videos are so silly...but yet...can't stop watching it.
