For the new year, I've been trying to think of and "of the week" that I could actually commit to on my blog. I had so much fun posting and recapping the Tarja video I posted last week, so guess what? FANTASY METAL VIDEO OF THE WEEK. Yes, each week I will watch ridiculous in this genre, post one, and recap and critique it. FUN. This will also expose me to more artists within this genre which is really essential. So, since I posted a Tarja solo joint last week, this week I decided to post a Nightwish video from the Tarja era (RIP TARJA ERA). I chose "Bless the Child" from their 2002 album, Century Child. I chose this video, because it is not too old and it's not too new. I will describe my feelings about this video as I watch it similar to last week. Ready? Ok, this is a half narrative/half performance video. We've got the staple abandoned warehouse with the band playing in it. Are their instruments plugged in? Of course not. Tarja's outfit is awesomely goth-ey and her, and I love her purple eyeshadow! The performance part of the video gets a total A+ from me, I mean look at them! I am pretty disappointed in the narrative for this video. I feel like the directer just didn't even know what the band or their music was all about. The narrative looks like something out of a Radiohead video or something and does not pair well with the sound (or the freaking look) of the band. Guy speeding somewhere in a car and drinking. Ok, GRAVEYARD and mysterious woman (or child?) appears. Okay... Goin' up the stairs...right...OH, I totally will give this video points for the guy washing his hands until they bleed. YES. Oh, snap! The girl in the graveyard is his [dead] wife. WHOA, hold on, ok so wedding, field, they're kids and everything's fine enter horse the end?!?!?! WHAT? THIS WAS NOT WELL THOUGHT OUT. I would have rather just watched the band in the warehouse for the entire 4 minutes, because they look so awesome all the time.
Tee-hee. I will enjoy coming by to see the videos and commentary weekly.
