Yesterday, I took a trip to Peterborough, NH to hike two small mountains - North & South Pack Monadnock. I was a beautiful day for a hike, and I am so glad I joined my friends for this adventure.
We hiked the Wapack Trail to the summit of North Pack Monadnock, then continued on the Wapack Trail to the summit of south Pack Monadnock. After that, we took the Marion Davis Trail to end in the parking lot. We ended up taking two cars and parking one at the beginning of our hike, and one at the end.
The group was: Rabbitt, me, Maddie, Sarah, and Steve. The hike to the first summit was pretty challenging after doing a lot of sitting all winter. Sarah and I pulled ahead of the group and did both summits at a bit faster pace. I felt really good that I could keep up with her. We ate lunch at the top of the first summit and enjoyed beautiful views and lots of sunshine.
It was a pretty clear day, so we could see very far from both summits. The picture above was taken from the second summit. The reaching the second summit was not as hard as the first, but it was challenging because our muscles were pretty tired from the first push.
There was a lookout tower on the second summit that was open. We got to climb up to the top and talk to the ranger who was on duty. This was really neat, because I have never been inside on of these. The ranger was looking for fires. He told us there were five already that day. I signed my name in the visitor's log. This hike was really neat. I'm so glad my friends invited me to do this. I had a great time with all of them, and I will miss them A LOT after I move.
After our hike we ate dinner at Harlow's in Peterborough and then spend a little bit of time in Rabbit's hometown - Keene, NH. We visited a couple of his old stomping grounds and met a few of his high school friends. We also played plenty of games at the bar.
All of my pictures from yesterday's hike can be found on my Flickr Page. If you want to learn more about this hike, visit the New Hampshire Parks website.
I've lived in or around NH most of my whole life, spent the ages of 5 to 18 in Boy Scouts, and never once climbed Monadnock. How is that?
I have been to Harlow's, however. Would you believe this?: Darren Milos played a show there a few years ago that I went to see.
