Sticks and Stitches 2009 at the Philadelphia Phantoms

This weekend I attended my first sporting/knitting in public event at the Philadelphia Phantoms.  It was a cool little event and it was fun to knit with friends and watch mullet-ey men beat each other up for three hours.

Maybe it's because I never go to events like these, but I found it all to be a little disturbing.  Not really the hockey or knitting part, just like...everything else.  The thing I was most surprised/disturbed about was the fact that EVERYONE WAS USING THEIR CELL PHONES FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF THE GAME. Seriously, taking pictures, texting, calling, twittering, texting, chatting, etc. etc. etc. Does anyone go to these things just to watch the sport anymore?  Or is it all about showing your friends where you are and what you're doing so they can feel like they missed out? I kind of get it, but mostly I don't.

So, I just knuckled down and worked on my sweater.  I'm almost done the neckline!

During the 2nd intermission, there was a raffle where we could win fabulous prizes.  I didn't win anything, but I did score a super cool goodie bag.

Now for the second installment of my weekend adventures:  Delaware!  I went down to Delaware to visit Robert two weekends ago, and I had a lot of fun!!  It was so nice to visit with him and see what his life is like now.  On Saturday, I went with him to his 2nd cyclocross race of the season.  I had a great time watching the races and taking pictures!  Robert came in 3rd in his race, which is so awesome!  He got some cool prizes like a mesh hat and a shirt.  Cyclocross is a really intense sport, and it was really fun to watch the races.  There are so many different parts and obstacles in the course.  There were even this small kids (like around 12 years old or so, but they look so small!) that were racing.  They were really fun to watch.

On Saturday night, we went to see Jackass 2.  It was great!  It was funny and SO crude and over the top and everything you would hope for in a Jackass sequal.  My favorite part was the Butt Chug.  We snuck beer into the movie theatre, and I was kind of nervous that we were going to get in trouble because there were families there and stuff, but everything was fine.

I knit Robert a pair of hobo gloves.  I started knitting them not very long before I was to go visit, and I was trying to get them done in time to give them to him, and I didn't even think about taking pictures.  Robert was kind enough to take a few for me.  Here's one of him in his gloves, and one of just the gloves laid out all nice.  Don't they look like you could just go buy them in a store?  I had never done glove style finger holes before, so this was a nice challenge too.

On Sunday, we went to Philadelpha and walked around and saw the Libery Bell.  We hate a chicken cheese steak sandwish for lunch and then I was time for me to go back to the airport.  It was a really great weekend!
